Effects of seasonal acclimation on the preferred body temperature of Thamnophis elegans vagrans

Abstract

1. 1.|An Experimental group of wandering garter snakes from a montane habitat was maintained over winter under laboratory conditions of total darkness and 4°C. 2. 2.|Their mean preferred body temperature (30.7°C) on a constant temperature thermal gradient was significantly higher than the preferred body temperature (24.5°C) of another group of wandering garter snakes collected and tested in late summer.
