Abstract

Rubratoxin B produced in mice a significant decrease in hepatic levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP), 1 h after i.p. injection. The toxin also significantly decreased levels of hepatic ATP, but this effect was not seen until 18 h post treatment. Therefore, the reported rubratoxin B-induced decrease in liver glycogen is not mediated through effects on cAMP or ATP. Rather, these actions of the toxin appear to be unrelated aspects of a hepatotoxicity.
