Abstract

The information presented in this article comes from a long‐term (12 years) riparian buffer study in the middle coastal plain of North Carolina. Researchers evaluated the effectiveness of riparian buffers in removing groundwater nitrate over time and also explored how vegetation (trees, fescue, switchgrass, native vegetation, and a control) and different buffer widths (25 and 50 ft) affected nitrate removal through the buffers.
