Abstract

Aim: To determine the Effects of Respiratory Muscle training among Elderly Individuals Methods & Measures: 23 Elderly individuals were selected based on the selection criteria, following which they were assessed for strength of the diaphragm using MMT, MVV using spirometry and dyspnea levels were scored using Borg scale as a pretest, 23 subjects were randomized into 2 groups, Group A experimental group was treated with Diaphragm strength training with sand bags starting with minimum weights and progressive weakly once and Group B control group taught Diaphragmatic breathing exercise and both the groups were asked to perform the exercise 5 sessions a week for a period of 4 weeks after which outcomes were tested using MVV, MMT, Modified Borg score for posttest . Result: when both the groups are compared results shows that p value is < 0.0001 shows Group A is statistically significant by improving respiratory muscle strength among elderly. Conclusion: This study showed significant differences in MVV and MMT by improving respiratory muscle strength and reduced dyspnea among elderly people with respiratory muscle weakness.
