Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of reduced glutathione on pulmonary apoptosis induced by different tidal volume mechanical ventilation in rats. Methods Thirty SD rats were randomly divided into five groups:control group(group A,n=6),normal ventilation group(group B,n=6),hyperventilation group(group C,n=6),normal ventilation+reduced glutathione group(group D,n=6),hyperventilation+reduced glutathione group(group E,n=6).The Nuclear factor-κΒ(NF-kB)expression in pulmonary endothelium was assessed by histochemical staining;the methods of ELISA was used to determined the level of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α).Apoptosis was investigated by TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling. Results The expression of the NF-κB,TNF-α was significantly higher in group C than in group A and group B,group D,group E.In group C pulmonary apoptosis were obviously than in group D and E (P<0.01).Conclusions Reduced glutathione can decrease pulmonary apoptosis ventilation-induced lung injury.
