Abstract

We examined the impact of radiotagging on breeding merlins (Falco columbarius) in Saskatoon (Canada) between May and July, 1987-90. We compared reproductive and hatching success between 12 tagged and 71 untagged males. We also collated return rates between 21 tagged (both M and F) and 112 untagged merlins. We did not observe any long-lasting abnormal behavior in tagged birds during the postrelease period. Breeding output, hatching success, and survival did not differ significantly (P>0.05) between radio-tagged and untagged birds
