Abstract

Prostacyclin produced in endothelial cells has vasodilating and antiplatelet activities. The effects of prostacyclin have been reported in experimental ischemic studies and in patients with ischemic stroke [3, 5]. Prostacyclin is too unstable to serve as a drug. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a stable prostacyclin analog, OP-2507 (15-cis-(4-n-propylcyclohexyl)-16,17,18,19,20-pentanor-9-deoxy-6,9alpha-nitrilo-prostaglandin Fl methylester), on acute focal cerebral ischemia in cats.
