Abstract

This chapter relates ways in which the characteristics of point defects in semiconductors may affect the electrical and optical properties of semiconducting material. Convenience and other practical considerations have given impetus to radiation effect studies of semiconductors to the extent that most of the available information about point defects in semiconductors is acquired from these studies. This emphasis is apparent in the material discussed. Silicon and germanium will be stressed because they have been studied in far more detail than other semiconductors.
