Abstract

There is a lack of information on the accuracy that is required to Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in the measurement of synchrophasors in order to use them correctly in the different applications on power systems. In this paper the use of PMUs for power system voltage stability assessment is considered. as a sample application. A small example network is adopted as case study, and the impact of PMU accuracy when used in this application is analyzed. Such analysis constitutes the first step to developing the background for both defining the performance characteristics for synchrophasor measurements used for instability detection and considering the robustness with respect to PMUs' uncertainty as a criterium for choosing the most suitable method for stability monitoring.
