Abstract

Cardiovascular and coronary conditions account for 14% of pregnancy-related maternal deaths in Ohio. Severe maternal morbidity (SMM) occurs almost 100 times more frequently than maternal deaths. From 2016 to 2019, the SMM rate for Ohio’s non-Hispanic Black pregnant women was more than twice that of White pregnant women. All women deserve evidence-based intervention for persistent severe-range blood pressure to avoid preventable SMM and mortality.
