Abstract

(Abstracted from J Minim Invasive Gynecol 2022;29:776–783) Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potentially preventable perioperative complication of benign hysterectomy, with historic rates of postoperative deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism of 9.6% and 1.8%, respectively. Recent estimates of VTE with routine prophylaxis are lower (0.1% to 0.3% vs 0.24% to 0.6% for laparoscopic and abdominal hysterectomy, respectively).
