Abstract
Abstract The experiment was initiated in an attempt to study the effects of pH and solvent/soil ratios on extraction of potassium (K) from 33 soils of Great Britain and Greece by nine extracting solutions—six acetate buffers, HOAc, NaHCO3, and NH4OAc. In general, no clear pH dependent relation for the extraction of K was obtained. The effects of solvent/soil ratio were studied over the range 3.120 to 200. Generally, the amounts of K extracted increased as the ratio increased. The ratio effect on the amounts of K extraction from the soils was about the same for HOAc and acetate buffer solutions, greater for NaHCO3, especially at high ratios and much smaller for the NH4OAc solution. The replacing ability of HOAc solution for K was about 65% of that of NH4OAc at ratio of 40, for the acetate buffer solutions about 45% at ratio 5, and that for the NaHCO3 solution about 65% at ratio 20, but more than 100% at ratios >100.
