Abstract

An attitude study was conducted in India to assess the effects of providing information of a population dynamics course on its acceptance. 36 male students at the Indian Institute of Technology were questioned as to their attitude toward taking a population dynamics course and toward having it included as a degree requirement. The subject group received a lecture on population dynamics and the control group received a lecture on sociological theory. Then both groups were retested. All subjects both cases and controls were highly willing to take the course. Change as a result of the 2 lectures was not significant. The case group did change its attitude significantly toward having the course required as a degree condition as a result of the intervening lecture. The population dynamics lecture was therefore seen as having both motivating and persuasive effects.
