Abstract
Summary Complete blood counts, serum transaminase levels, and serum alkaline phosphatase levels were monitored in normal quaker parrots, parrots exposed to live Pacheco's parrot disease virus, and parrots vaccinated with killed Pacheco's parrot disease virus. The most consistent serum chemistry change in moribund birds suffering from an active infection of Pacheco's parrot disease herpesvirus was a rise in serum alanine transaminase levels. Serum alkaline phosphatase levels were higher than the normal range in five of six birds vaccinated with killed Pacheco's herpesvirus.
