Abstract

In an attempt to establish the equilibrium phase diagram of Ba2YCu3Oy, we have carefully studied effects of oxygen stoichiometry and oxygen ordering by improving sample preparation techniques. We found that the orthorhombic phase extends down to at least y ⋍ 6.2 and superconductivity prevails in this phase region. In the framework of this new phase diagram, results of magnetic susceptibility and resistivity are discussed and a model is proposed for the origin of the Curie-Weiss term in the magnetic susceptibility.
