Abstract

Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) of 139La in La 2− x M x CuO 4 (M = Ba, Sr) have revealed unexpected enhancement of the nuclear relaxation rate, 1 T 1 at T ∗ c ∼ 10 K , suggesting the occurrence of a magnetic instability in the low temperature region. Magnetic impurities (Fe etc.) suppress the enhancement of 1 T 1 , but non-magnetic Zn does not. A new phase diagram involving re-entrant behavior of 3D-AF and a quantum spin frustrated state is proposed. In the superconducting region, fluctuations of Cu moments at low temperatures seem to remain extremely fast, the same as that at high temperatures.
