Abstract

The main objective of this research is to reveal the operating temperature range of the engine that provides the best emission and performance. In this experimental work, the operational parameters of a four-stroke three-cylinder gasoline engine, such as brake power, and specific fuel consumption, were investigated experimentally with different ethanol gasoline blends. Brake power and specific fuel consumption are measured at various engine speeds, loads and operating temperature, i.e. coolant temperature. Ethanol mixtures with gasoline in varying proportions (E5, E10 and E15) are prepared and studied in three cylinders, four-stroke SI computer test-rig. The experiments were carried out at 2000 rpm with 3 kg load and 40, 50, 60, 70, 80℃ coolant temperature. The research has focused on determining the best operational conditioning by using different mixtures of ethanol gasoline instead of pure gasoline. The results obtained on performance and emissions of engine parameters at 2000 rpm with constant engine loading conditions, i.e., brake power (bp), brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc) and NOx, HC have presented graphically with respect to the coolant temperature of the engine. The present study showed that it is suitable to operate the engine at temperature 65˚C-75˚C for obtaining better performance indications for gasoline and ethanol gasoline blends.
