Abstract

A single, one μg topical application of diflubenzuron (N-(4-chlorophenyl)-N′-(2,6-difluorobenzoyl)-urea), to the venter of pregnant tsetse flies, Glossina palpalis palpalis (Robineau-Desvoidy), was nontoxic and did not interfere with ovarian development, embryogenesis, or egg hatch in utero. The compound exerted its effects on the exerted offspring and principally on the late larval (“prepupal”) and puparial stages. The overall inhibition in development of progeny over 4 pregnancy cycles posttreatment for 2 different age groups of flies was 77 and 83%.
