Abstract

The residual interactions between neutrons and protons affect the position of the dipole giant resonance in nuclei and the amplitude of the zero-point motion in the dipole mode. As a result the charge distribution obtained using shell-model wave functions is slightly modified. This change in the nuclear charge distribution can increase the magnitude of the elastic electron scattering cross section in light nuclei by about 50%, without changing the diffraction structure.
