Abstract

The variation in total phenolic substances in three brinjal cultivars i.e Pusa Kranti (R), Kantabaigan (R) and Pusa Purple Long(S) were studied 45 days after inoculation of Meloidogyne incognita. The total phenolic substances in the roots of both healthy and resistant cultivars was higher compared to the susceptible cultivars. However, in the inoculated plants the total phenolic substances in two resistant variety varied from 0.488 to 0.782 mg/g as compared to susceptible variety (0.687 mg/g). An increasing trend was also observed in the phenolic contents in the roots of inoculated susceptible and resistant cultivars.
