Abstract
A soil column of 20 m is established to simulate the seismic responses of free site by using the open source finite element software OpenSees. The characteristics of site liquefaction are investigated under near-fault ground motions, especially under the ground motion component with directivity effect. Based on the index of unit settlement of site, the influence of different types of near-fault ground motions on the susceptibility of site liquefaction and the seismic settlement is analyzed. The results show that the near-fault pulse-like ground motion is more likely to induce the occurrence of site liquefaction and cause a larger permanent vertical deformation, especially the double-sided directivity-pulse motions. The liquefaction susceptibility and the settlement of the site under one-side pulse-like motions are lower than that under double-sided directivity-pulse motions because of its pseudo-static characteristic.
