Abstract
In this study, the nano-micron TiB2-Al2Y/Mg-9Y-0.6La composites were prepared by introducing nano-TiB2 and micron-Al2Y particles into Mg-9Y-0.6La alloys via the addition of nano-TiB2/Al master alloy. The introduction of nano-micron TiB2-Al2Y particles refined the α-Mg grains, weakened the basal texture, and promoted the dynamic recrystallization of the composites. The yield strength and tensile strength of the 4.31 wt% TiB2-Al2Y/Mg-9Y-0.6La composite were increased by 69 MPa and 65 MPa, respectively, compared with the Mg-9Y-0.6La alloy. The main strengthening mechanisms of the composites were fine grain strengthening, Orowan strengthening, and coefficient of thermal expansion strengthening caused by the TiB2-Al2Y particles.
