Abstract

Low Cr-containing CoNiFeMnCr high entropy alloys (HEAs) dispersed with different amounts of nano-Y2O3 particles were fabricated by mechanical alloying. The effects of nano-dispersoids on synthesis, microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the model HEAs were investigated. The results demonstrate that a solid solution phase was formed after a long time of mechanical alloying. The addition of Y2O3 oxides in the model HEAs can promote the formation of the fine, uniform distribution of Cr-rich oxide particles. It suggested that the presence of Y2O3 could act as a nucleation site for precipitation of Cr-rich oxides. A high hardness and elastic modulus of the HEAs can therefore be achieved.
