Abstract

High performance polymethacrylimide foams were prepared via bulk polymerisation through free radical copolymerisation, in which butyl methacrylate and acrylamide were used as the main reactive monomers. Magnesium hydroxide and acrylic acid were used as the multiple crosslinking agents. Mechanism of crosslinking reactions was analysed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Effects of the multiple crosslinking agents on the structure and properties of PMI foams were investigated. The results show the structure and mechanical properties of PMI foams can be adjusted by the composition and the contents of the crosslinking agents.
