Abstract
There is only limited information indicating the presence of a locomotor control center in the midbrain tegmentum of teleost fishes. Lesions were made in various regions of the tegmentum and/or diencephalon of goldfish and abnormalities in swimming behavior and body orientation were noted. Lesions in the medial tegmentum posterior of the posterior commissure were most effective in altering behavior. The results support the idea of a tegmental locomotor center in goldfish.
