Abstract

The influence on the energy resolution of small deviations from concentricity or sphericity in a hemispherical capacitor electron energy analyzer is investigated. For typical operating conditions, the contribution to the energy broadening is found to be ΔE/ E ∼ (0.05−0.2) Δ/ g, where Δ is the error in centering or shaping, and g is the electrode gap.
