Abstract

Background and aim Hypertension and diabetes mellitus co-exist. It is reported that hypertension is at least twice as common in diabetic subjects when compared with non-diabetic population. Excess generation of free radicals causes oxidative stress which is implicated in the development of hypertension and progression of diabetes as well as its complications. This study investigated the effects of honey on hyperglycemia, antioxidant enzymes, oxidative stress markers and renal histology of normal and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats.
