Abstract

In order to investigate the deliveries of harmful components in mainstream smoke of low ignition propensity(LIP) cigarette, cigarette samples were made of the same tobacco compositions and wrapped with ordinary cigarette paper or LIP cigarette paper, the ratio of full length burn and rate of free combustion of samples and the deliveries of harmful components in mainstream cigarette smoke were determined. The results showed that: 1) There was great difference between the ratios of full length burn of LIP1 and LIP2 samples. All LIP1 samples were in compliance with the Fire Standard, while only 60% of LIP2 samples were compliant.2) The rates of free combustion of LIP samples were much lower than that of ordinary cigarette, however there was no obvious difference between LIP1 and LIP2 samples.3) LIP cigarette paper tended to increase the deliveries of harmful components, including tar, nicotine,CO,HCN,B[a]P,phenol and benzene,in mainstream cigarette smoke and cigarette hazard index, however there was no obvious difference between LIP1 and LIP2 samples.
