Abstract
Effects of low concentrations of two benzoylphenylureas, alsystin and UC 62644 (2,6-difluoro- N -[[[4-[3-dichloro-5-trifluoromethyl-2-pyridinyloxy]-3,5-dichlorophenyl]amino]carbonyl]benzamide), applied on bell peppers, Capsinum annuum L. ‘Yolo Wonder’, on Platynota stultana Walsingham were studied in the greenhouse using life tables. Alsystin significantly decreased larval and pupal survivorship but had no significant effect on adult survivorship or longevity. Fecundity was also decreased with alsystin treatment compared with control groups. Similar to observations in the laboratory, population doubling time increased to 1.9-fold with alsystin treatment. Groups treated with UC 62644 did not differ among themselves in immature survivorship, adult survivorship, fecundity, and adult longevity. These factors were significantly lower in UC 62644-treated groups compared with control groups. There was a 1.3-fold increase in doubling time with the highest concentration of UC 62644.
