Abstract

A method for elasto-plastic analysis of frames subject to loads including linearly varying distributed load is described. The method requires the introduction of a moving node corresponding to the location of the internal plastic hinge which coincides with the point of maximum bending moment. This method ensures that the plastic bending moment is nowhere exceeded and the yield criterion is always satisfied. Based on the examples given, the algorithm for implementing this method is efficient and the results obtained from the analysis are accurate. The method is applicable to structures with yield criterion based on pure bending or force interaction.
