Abstract

Nursing governance councils lead to improved nurse empowerment; however, it is unknown whether using a similar structure for nurse leaders results in similar outcomes. We implemented a frontline nurse leader council to evaluate the impact on the nurse leader’s empowerment and confidence. Members were surveyed before and after the initiation of the council on empowerment and leader efficacy. No statistically significant improvements were noted. However, scores improved on the Conditions for Work Effectiveness Questionnaire – II Global Empowerment and the Leader Efficacy Questionnaire Leader Means Efficacy. There were no statistically significant improvements pre- and post-survey; however, participants expressed optimism for culture improvement.
