Abstract

The study examined the Effects of Job Analysis on Personnel Utilization in Public Organizations with specific emphasis on Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). In an effort to achieve the research objectives the study adopted a survey design. A sample of 230 staff from Nigerian Ports Authority in Port Harcourt was drawn for the study. The sample elements consisted of 5 cadres of staff (management, administrative/operational, finance/accounting, supervisory, and general staff). Out of the 230 copies of questionnaire administered, 214 copies were retrieved and after going through them 198 (i.e. 86.09% response rate) copies were found useful for data analysis. The tools of data analysis in this study consisted of frequency tables and simple percentages. The study has revealed that to a very large extent the use of Job analysis aids public organizations to maintain efficiency and effectiveness in their operations. The study equally reveals that job analysis helps to improve employees’ performance and in all it helps public organizations to be highly productive through employees’ performance. The study therefore recommends that public organizations should as a matter of policy develop enterprising zeal for recruiting qualified personnel and effect job analysis techniques in the organization so that strategic advantage could be attained there from
