Abstract

Background/Aims: Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R-i) is a frequently occurring phenomenon during abdominal and thoracic vascular surgery, small bowel transplantation and hemorrhagic shock, carrying high morbidity and mortality. In the present work, we analyzed the effects of ischemia/reperfusion on neurons immunoreactive for the P2X7 receptor in the myenteric plexus of the male Wistar rats ileum.
