Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effects and value of interventional neuroradiology in patients with carotid artery stenosis complicated with transient ischemic attack. Methods A total of 94 patients with carotid stenosis and transient ischemic attack in General Hospital of Shanxi Lu’an Mining (Group) from January 2016 and June 2017 were selected. Patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 47 cases in each group. Patients in control group were treated with routine medication, while patients in observation group were treated by interventional neuroradiology based on routine treatment. The improvement in complications and neurology were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, the National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores of the two groups were higher, and the difference between the two groups was not significant (P>0.05); after 1 month to 12 months of treatment, the improvement in NIHSS score in observation group was significantly better than that in control group (P<0.05). During the 12-months follow-up, the incidence of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack was 4.25% in observation group, and 19.14% in control group, and the difference between the two groups was significant (P<0.05). The incidence of reversible complications in observation group was 12.76%; one case had serious complications and were cured after symptomatic treatment; there was no fatal complications in observation group. Conclusions The effects of interventional neuroradiology for carotid artery stenosis complicated with transient ischemic attack based on routine drugs is better than that of routine drugs alone, which can effectively improve patients’ neurological deficits and reduce the risk of ischemic stroke. It is worth popularization and application. Key words: Carotid stenosis; Transient ischemic attack; Interventional neuroradiology; Effect
