Abstract

In this paper we are interested in the direct computation of the unsteady pressure in the near field due to parallel interaction of a finitecore vortex with a flat plate. The plate is assumed to be of zero thickness and finite chord. We solve the two-dimensional nonlinear Euler equations by a sixth-order finite-dierence method coupled with a tenthorder compact filter and a fourth-order Rugne-Kutta method for time advancement. We use Giles’ nonreflecting boundary conditions at the inflow and outflow boundaries. We investigate the eects of the internal structure of the vortex (i.e. the variation of vorticity with radius) and freestream Mach number on the produced near field pressure. We considered the Oseen and Taylor vortices and range of subsonic Mach numbers.
