Abstract

Effects of incident wave directions and mooring line configurations on spar platform with damping plate are investigated numerically using ANSYS-AQWA in this paper. Spar platform with one damping plate placed at the spar bottom is considered for the present study to support the floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). Frequency domain analysis is carried out for the different incident wave directions and mooring line configurations. Motion RAOs and mooring line tension RAOs acquired from the frequency domain simulation are compared for all the mooring line configurations. Time domain analysis is also conducted for the operating wave condition to obtain the suitable mooring line configuration. It was found that the four mooring line configuration with one mooring line oriented at 45° to the incident wave direction performs well compared to the all-other configurations.
