Abstract

A high decrease in fertility was earlier reported in Dugesia polychroa after induced self‐fertilization. Similar results have now been obtained in Planaria torva from a comparative analysis of cocoon fertility between cross‐ and self‐pairs. The data reported provide further support to the view of ≪inbreeding depression≫ occurring in freshwater planarians.
