Abstract
Rats lived alone or in groups of six and consumed either H2O, 10% ethanol, or 20% ethanol for 30 days. Results showed that rats housed alone consume significantly more 20% ethanol than do rats housed in groups. No differences were observed between individually housed and group housed rats which drank either 10% ethanol or H2O. These findings have implications for studies in which animals are forced to consume high concentrations of ethanol.
