Abstract

The present work investigated the effects of hot compression and heat treatment on the microstructure and tensile property of Ti–6.5Al–3.5Mo–1.5Zr–0.3Si alloy with a widmanstätten microstructure. During hot compression at 995 °C, the lamellar α phase in the widmanstätten structure was distorted, and an equiaxed microstructure was obtained by subsequent duplex annealing of the hot-compressed sample. The tensile strength and elongation were significantly improved by hot compressing at 995 °C. Duplex annealing treatment resulted in a further increase in ductility at the expense of slight decrease in strength. A good combination of tensile strength (990 MPa) and elongation (12.8%) has been obtained by hot compression at 995 °C followed by the duplex annealing treatment.
