Abstract

In recent years, the functional improvement of hearing aids and cochlear implants and the spread of new-born hearing screening have a major influence on the start of early educational intervention and the early application of hearing aids and cochlear implants. It has been clarified that the performances of children who are utilizing hearing aids and/or cochlear implants are comparable to those of hearing children in language development such as phonological awareness and vocabulary, and in cognitive development such as working memory. At the same time, such children will understand their own hearing/listening characteristic and as a result they will be able to propose the appropriate sound environment for themselves.
