Abstract

Objective To study effects of health education on the quality improvement in video-electroencephalogram (V-EEG) monitoring for children. Methods A total of 662 cases of children diagnosed as epilepsy or encephalitis with suspicion by routine electroencephalogram in Chengdu Women & Children Central Hospital from September 2014 to August 2015 were admitted for further V-EEG investigation. There were 312 cases of children among them who examined by V-EEG accepting a routine appointment (check list, indicate inspection preparation and attentions) from September 2014 to Febrary 2015 were included into control group, and the other 350 cases of children who examined by V-EEG accepting a routine appointment combined with health education (making targeted, personalized and multi-form health education strategies for children and their parents, and to be implemented before and during V-EEG monitoring) from March to August 2015 were included into observation group. Statistical analysis were applied between two groups of general clinical data and success rates of V-EEG monitoring. Informed consent was obtained from the parents of each participating child. Results ①There were no significant differences between two groups in constituent ratio of gender, average age, types of diseases and so on (P>0.05). ②Success rate of V-EEG monitoring in observation group was 85.7% (300/350), which was much higher than that of control group (71.5%, 223/312), and the difference was significantly different (χ2=20.79, P<0.001). Conclussion By making targeted, personalized and multi-form health education strategies for children and their parents before and during V-EEG monitoring can effectively make the success rate of V-EEG monitoring enhanced.
