Abstract

The electronic spectrum of aqueous solution of light sensitive commercial azo dye Arsenazo (III) shows absorption maximum at 530 nm. An analytical method for the spectrophotometric quantitative estimation of Arsenazo(III) by complexation with nickel(II) is described in this research paper. Arsenazo(III) dye act as ligand and forms light yellow orange coloured 1:1 complex with nickel(II) with absorbance maximum at 604 nm. Study of stability of complex show that it remains stable for about 18 h in temperature range 50–60 °C and pH range 3–5. Calibration curve shows good agreement in the concentration range 1.31 × 101 µg/ml to 5.58 × 101 µg/ml of Arsenazo(III) with molar absorptive coefficient of complex as 4.0 × 102 l mol−1 cm−1. For Arsenazo(III): Ni(II) complex the regression equation is Y = 3.52 × 10−2 + 2.49 × 10−3X with correlation coefficient r = 0.987 and coefficient of variance 1.771, relative standard deviation % is ±1.02%.Stability constant for the complex was found to be 4.87.
