Effects of guide-type health education on the prevention of falls in elderly hospitalized patients

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in formulating health education program for inpatient elderly patients with guided falls. Methods RCA method was used to analyze potential errors and root causes in the implementation of health education in the nursing system in 12 cases of elderly falls from January to June 2016, and a guideline health education improvement program and training of nursing staff were implemented.The incidence of falls in elderly patients before and after implementation was compared. Results The incidence of falls in elderly hospitalized patients after implementation was significantly lower than before implementation, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusions Guided health education programs can effectively reduce the incidence of falls in elderly hospitalized patients. Key words: Fall; Aged; Root causes analysis; Health education
