Abstract
1. The effect of 20 guanidino compounds was examined individually on the electrical activity of two spontaneously firing giant neurons [periodically oscillating neuron (PON) and tonically autoactive neuron (TAN)] identified in the subesophageal ganglia of the African giant snail, Achatina fulica Férussac. 2. Guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) at high concentration (10 −4 g/ml) was the only examined compound that showed an inhibitory effect on TAN. No guanidino compound examined had an effect on the PON excitability.
