Abstract

This paper shows that the mechanical response of superplastic materials is related to their microstructure and that the use of a microstructural gradient approach can improve the evenness in straining during superplastic gas-blow forming. Finite element simulations of the forming process are carried out to investigate the effect of initial grain-size gradients on the non-uniform thinning of a formed structural component.
