Abstract

SummaryFoliar sprays of GA4+7 applied at petal fall (PF) were more effective than GA3 sprays at equivalent concentrations for reducing fruit russeting on mature Golden Delicious trees. Early GA4+7 sprays (close to PF) were more beneficial than late GA4+7 sprays (3 to 4 weeks after PF) for controlling fruit russeting on young Golden Delicious trees. Though higher concentrations of GA4+7 reduced fruit set, increased shoot extension growth and reduced return bloom (young trees only), dilute sprays (e.g. 10 ppm) applied close to PF improved skin finish largely without harmful side effects.
