Abstract

Three phenylketonuric children, maintained on a daily regimen containing 65 to 75 Gm. of protein, were given at different times either 10 mg. of folic acid or 9 mg. of folinic acid daily for periods of 5 weeks. No effect was noted on serum phenylalanine with these compounds. Urinary phenylpyruvic and phenyllactic acids were lowered by the folic acid and a mechanism is postulated to account for these changes Three phenylketonuric children, maintained on a daily regimen containing 65 to 75 Gm. of protein, were given at different times either 10 mg. of folic acid or 9 mg. of folinic acid daily for periods of 5 weeks.
