Abstract

A theory of film nonlinearities relating to amplitude holograms and bleached phase holograms is developed which is adapted to the problem of the holographic storage of digital data. The amplitude transmittance characteristics are for this purpose expanded in power series. The odd higher-order terms of the expansion yield expressions defining ghost spots that impair image quality.
