Abstract

Objective To observe the changes of vimentin expression of temporal muscles in rats that exposed to high sustained +Gz acceleration after administrating ferulic acid and depside salt from salvia mihiorrhiza. Methods Twenty-four male Wistar rats were randomly and averagely divided into 8 groups.Group 1 was control group and in where rats were only fixed on the resting centrifuge for 5 min without drug administration.Others were taken as test groups in where rats were exposed to +10 Gz environment for 30 s.The exposures for each test group were repeated 5 times a day,4 times a week and were tested for 3 weeks. In test groups, group 2 was taken as test control group where without drug administration while rats in other test groups were administrated either ferulic acid or depside salt from salvia mihiorrhiza 30 min prior to experiment with 3 different doses (1,3,10 mg/kg).Rats in control groups were taken 0.9% sodium chloride in same period with equivalent doses.Vimentin expression of temporal muscles was conducted by immunohistochemistry. Results Group 1 was not observed vimentin expression while group 2 showed significant positive.Taking different doses of ferulic acid and depside salt from salvia mihiorrhiza could inhibit expression of vimentin and such inhibition showed dose-dependent feature. Conclusions Ferulic acid and depside salt from salvia miltiorrhiza can inhibit vimentin expression of temporal muscle of rat that exposed in high sustained +Gz environment. It reveals that ferulic acid and depside salt from salvia miltiorrhiza may effectively prevent or cure +Gz induced temporomandibular joint disorder.
