Abstract

The objective of the present investigation was to study the effects of extraction techniques on phytochemicals and antioxidant activity of Syzygium cumini seeds. In the present study, qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis were carried out using various methods. Antioxidant efficacy of the various extracts derived by seven different extraction methods was assessed by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging method. The results showed that the extraction method significantly altered the antioxidant activity as well as the phytochemicals in different extracts. Results from this study provides a better understanding for the selection of an appropriate solvent and extraction method especially for S. cumini seeds.
